Our platform

The Transferz microservice platform consists of 25+ independent microservices built on Spring Boot (2.6+). We utilize GitHub for version control and have completely set up our CI/CI pipeline using GitHub Actions. Our strict quality control gateways enforced during pull requests (peer review, code styling, static code analysis, unit & integration test coverage) ensure our applications stay healthy - all services have >90% code coverage on automated tests. Our frontends are built on React and interact with the microservice platform through GraphQL (node.js). The software runs on the Google Cloud using Kubernetes and Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL), fully managed through Terraform.


As Engineering Manager, you’ll......

Play a pivotal role in shaping the technical future of Transferz. You will be leading and coaching a team of 10+ Software Engineers (Java and Javascript) and Quality Assurance engineers. You’’ll create a collaborative and energetic environment by creating a space (culture) where the team is encouraged to contribute and grow their skills. Your role will directly impact our ability to deliver high-quality products that align with our business goals and growing the output of Transferz. Moreover, you will be the right hand to our CTO by ensuring our teams have the right people and processes in place to drive quality results. You will be collaborating closely with product managers and other key stakeholders.


What will you be doing?

  • Team leadership & development: Lead and mentor a growing team of engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, communicating, innovation, and continuous improvement. Ensure that each team member is supported in their professional development and technical growth. You'll identify skill gaps to ensure each team is staffed adequately to allow it to become high performing and lead the hiring process.
  • Processes & procedures: You'll closely analyze the way development teams operate, applying agile principles, processes and procedures to structure their way of working to allow them to consistently over-perform. You ensure that all processes run smoothly and keep everyone's eyes on the prize.
  • Cross-departmental collaboration: Act as the technical liaison between departments, you ensure strong communication and alignment between engineering, product, commercial & operational teams.
  • Innovation: Stay on top of emerging technologies and trends, ensuring the company is adopting the right tools and practices to remain competitive.
  • Operational excellence: Oversee engineering processes such as sprint planning, code reviews, and deployment workflows. Continuously refine workflows to increase team efficiency and effectiveness in delivering projects on time and with minimal defects.

What do you need?

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or relevant field experience.
  • At least 5-year experience in managing engineering teams in an agile environment;
  • Proven experience fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and collaboration within engineering teams, rewarding energy and motivation.
  • Deep understanding of Agile principles and methodologies.
  • Technical expertise; a strong background and deep understanding in technology trends, programming and in best/innovating practices;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify issues early, and implement effective solutions;
  • Contagious energy and motivation; inspiring others to achieve their best work and drive towards shared goals.


Bonus point if you:

  • have knowledge of the primary development languages (Java, Javascript) and frameworks (Spring Boot, React) we use;
  • have a solid understanding of software design principles and patterns to build maintainable applications;
  • have experience in running software deployed to the (public) cloud, ideally using Docker and Kubernetes;
